Dear Readers,

Beginning in spring 2025, Journal of the Southwest will be transitioning to a digital-only format, discontinuing production of our paper copy, and entrusting subscription services to ProjectMuse. We will also be moving to a biannual (rather than quarterly) publication schedule. (You will find a link to our ProjectMuse page below.)

Journal of the Southwest (formerly Arizona and the West) began publishing at the University of Arizona in spring 1959. JSW expanded its content and orientation and changed its name and design in the spring of 1987, under the direction of a new editor, Dr. Joseph Wilder. It was an exciting moment for the journal, and since then we have endeavored to maintain the same creative spirit and high standards for content that have characterized JSW from the beginning. We have always worked to be something more, something different, from a typical scholarly journal, working with a diversity of artists and authors both within and outside of the academy. Over the past several years, however, we have seen our budget and the size of our crew contract significantly. At the same time, production costs continue to rise. We are therefore forced to make the painful decision of discontinuing production of our paper-copy issues and shifting to a biannual production rhythm. Digital production also brings some new possibilities, however, and we are hopeful that JSW will be made available to a wider array of readers and with a sharper design. In any case, we thank you for your continued support over the years, and we hope to see you continue your subscriptions via the new ProjectMuse platform, which you can find at: https://muse.jhu.edu/journal/530
