This is the final of a three-part bilingual excerpt taken from the autumn 2014 issue of Journal of the Southwest, a special issue featuring a translation of the book Entre Yoris y Guarijíos: Crónicas sobre El Quehacer Antropológico, written by Dr. María Teresa Valdivia Dounce. Dr. Valdivia is a researcher and professor in the Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. This part of the book is an oral history narrated to Valdivia by Cipriano Buitimea Romero, a leader among the Guarijío people. Valdivia did not simply record and transcribe Cipriano’s words, however. The two of them worked closely together from start to finish to produce this astonishing historical account of oppression and resilience in the Sierra Guarijía of Sonora.  Reading the Spanish-language version is Dr. Jéssica Retis, a professor of journalism at the University of Arizona.

Ésta es la [ultima entrega de una serie de tres lecturas bilingües extraídas del número de otoño de 2004 del Journal of the Southwest, un número especial que incluía la traducción del libro Entre Yoris y Guarijíos: Crónicas sobre el quehacer Antropológico, escrito por la doctora María Teresa Valdivia Dounce, investigadora y profesora del Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Esta parte del libro es una historia oral narrada a Valdivia por Cipriano Buitimea Romero, líder del pueblo guarijío. Valdivia no se limitó a grabar y transcribir las palabras de Cipriano. Los dos trabajaron en estrecha colaboración de principio a fin para producir este asombroso relato histórico de opresión y la resiliencia en la Sierra Guarijía de Sonora. La versión en español es leída por la doctora Jéssica Retis, profesora de periodismo en la Universidad de Arizona.
